Ob Biodiversitätsverlust, Hitzewellen oder Abschmelzen der Gletscher: Die Klimakrise zeigt uns schon heute jeden Tag ihre teils irreversiblen Auswirkungen auf unsere Ökosysteme – und das weltweit. Gleichzeitig hat die Klimakrise ein Gerechtigkeitsproblem: Während Big Oil weiterhin Profite in den Milliarden macht und das reichste 1 % der Weltbevölkerung für 16 % der globalen CO2-Emission verantwortlich ist, trifft es die Länder, die am wenigsten zur Entstehung der Klimakrise beitragen, am härtesten. So ist im sogenannten Globalen Süden die Existenz ganzer Inselstaaten, wie Kiribati, durch den Meeresspiegelanstieg bedroht.
Wo stehen wir also gerade? Sind wir wirklich schon an einem „Point of No Return“ vorbei oder gibt es noch Hoffnung?
Als Students for Future und AStA der Uni Hamburg haben wir jedenfalls noch nicht aufgegeben und laden alle Interessierten dazu ein, es uns unter dem Motto „Reclaiming Tomorrow“ gleich zu tun – denn so heißt die Ringvorlesung zur Klimakrise dieses Semester. Zum neunten Mal in Folge werden in 14 Vorlesungen Expert*innen ihr Wissen und Forschung über die Klimakrise vorstellen – hierbei geht es von hochaktuellen gesellschaftspolitischen Diskursen wie Migration über naturwissenschaftliche Themen wie Klimaextreme bis zu geisteswissenschaftlichen Forschungsbereichen wie der Klimafiktion.
Die Ringvorlesung findet ab dem 8.4. jeden Dienstag um 18 Uhr im Audimax I der Uni Hamburg statt und ihr könnt euch noch bis zum 17.4. bei STiNE bei den Veranstaltungen des Instituts für Geographie oder des ISA-Zentrums anmelden. Doch auch alle anderen Interessierten – unabhängig ihres bestehenden Vorwissens – sind herzlich eingeladen, ihr Wissen zu erweitern. Title: Our Climate Lecture Series Continues!
From biodiversity loss to heatwaves to the melting of the polar caps: The climate crisis is already demonstrating its partially irreversible impacts on our ecosystems all around the globe. Additionally, the climate crisis is highly unfair: As Big Oil makes billions in profits and the richest 1% of the global population produces 16% of global carbon emissions, the very countries that are the least responsible for creating the climate crisis are already hit the hardest. The existence of entire island states in the so-called Global South, for example, is in peril due to sea-level rise.
So – what is our status quo? Have we already passed a “Point of No Return” or is there still hope?
At AStA and Students for Future Hamburg, for one, we have not lost hope and invite everybody to follow our example with the motto “Reclaiming Tomorrow” – which is the title of this term’s climate lecture series. For the ninth time in a row, experts will present their knowledge and research on the climate crisis in 14 lectures. These range from socio-political discourses like migration to scientific topics like climate extremes and humanistic research like climate fiction.
Starting on April 8, the lecture series will take place every Tuesday at 6 PM at Audimax I lecture hall. You are still able to register for the lecture series until April 17: Just find the lecture series amongst the classes of the Institute of Geography or the “ISA-Zentrum” on STiNE. Everyone else who is interested in expanding their knowledge on the climate crisis is also invited to participate – regardless of prior knowledge.
